Nayef Aguerd cuts all ties with West Ham United after what he said today
West Ham United defender Nayef Aguerd has posted a message to supporters after his loan move to Real Sociedad was completed on deadline day.
The 27-year-old had been the subject of speculation in the final days of the transfer window after Julen Lopetegui deemed him surplus to requirements in East London.
After a permanent transfer failed to materialise, Aguerd joined Real Sociedad on a season-long loan, with no obligation to buy, but his Instagram post [31 August] suggests he has no plans of returning to West Ham at the end of the season.
He said: “Today, I am taking on a new challenge, but West Ham will always be a significant part of my career.
“The time I’ve spent here has been full of great memories and emotions, especially our unforgettable win in the Europa Conference League. This achievement will always be a significant passage in my career.
“I want to thank all the supporters for their constant support since I arrived. Your passion and loyalty have been a big inspiration and motivation for me.
“I also want to say a big thank you to the board, including everyone who works within the club, my past and current coaches, and all the staff who work behind the scenes with dedication and passion.
“A special thanks to my teammates, who welcomed me with amazing warmth and kindness. You made me feel at home from day one, and I will always remember that. Thank you for everything.”
Will Nayef Aguerd play for West Ham United again?
It had felt inevitable that Aguerd would leave West Ham this summer after the signings of Max Kilman and Jean-Clair Todibo.
Kilman and Konstantinos Mavropanos have started the first two matches of the 2024/25 Premier League season, but the Greek is expected to lose his place in the starting lineup once Todibo is ready to start matches.
There is no place for the Moroccan, who has a regular feature of the David Moyes side, and a move for regular playing time in the Spanish top flight is the best outcome for the player who seemed uneager to fight for his place with the Hammers.

The defence was the priority for Tim Steidten this summer. The Irons were poor defensively last season in the Premier League and his presence in that defensive setup has ultimately cost him his place at West Ham.
Should the new signings succeed this season and help the Hammers achieve their aspirations of a European spot, a permanent exit for Aguerd will certainly be on the cards next summer.
It seems that Aguerd shares this sentiment following his Instagram post, and his priority this season should be to impress in La Liga and earn himself a permanent move to a top European club next summer, or perhaps stay with Real Sociedad.
In other West Ham news, the Hammers made a last-ditch transfer attempt for Jhon Duran before the deadline.
