Multi-million loan for development at West Ham United granted by City Hall

City Hall will grant a multi-million-pound loan to install a vast ‘solar membrane’ on the London Stadium, home of West Ham, according to the Evening Standard.

The East London venue is expected to produce fewer carbon emissions and enjoy lower energy bills as a result of the scheme.

Utilising solar technology, it will span around 6,000-7,000 square metres of photovoltaic material, noted the Evening Standard.

“A multi-million-pound loan to install a vast ‘solar membrane’ on London’s former Olympic stadium is to be granted by City Hall,” according to the Evening Standard.

“The London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC), the organisation spearheading the project, said it will help drive savings of up to £350,000 a year.

“The loan for the scheme is being awarded from City Hall’s Green Finance Fund – a £500m pot launched in June as part of London Climate Action Week.”

Positive news

Not so long ago, there was constant controversy surrounding the London Stadium when it was known as the Olympic Stadium, with a lengthy debate around how it would be used following the 2012 Olympics in the English capital.

Since then, however, West Ham have been very happy tenants, with the East London club bringing silverware to the stadium last season as they won the Europa Conference League.

They have been very well supported on a regular basis in the Premier League, with Hammers fans constantly filling the huge arena with claret and blue.

Now there is another positive update to the stadium’s brief history, with this latest development set to help drive massive savings, as well as the important issue of helping the environment.

The passionate West Ham supporters look very happy in their new home, having been forced to bid an emotional farewell to their beloved Upton Park not so long ago.

In other West Ham news, a 10 July exit deadline has emerged as one club pushes to sign a Hammers ace this summer.
