Moyes gives green light to move for former West Ham target in January – report

David Moyes wants Bournemouth striker Josh King to move to West Ham if the two clubs can agree on terms, according to Claret and Hugh.

The Hammers were interested in signing the Cherries forward this summer but a move never materialised for the Norweigian international.

The Sun reported in October that the Hammers had a £13 million bid rejected for the 28-year-old which lead to the club turning their attention to Said Benrahma.

West Ham insiders Claret and Hugh are now reporting that Moyes has ‘made up his mind’ and the Hammers will attempt to sign King when the January transfer window opens.

The report also says that the club are prepared to up their bid to £15 million in an effort to secure the services of a new striker.

King is goalless in five Championship appearances this season and would presumably jump at the chance to play in the Premier League again after suffering relegation with Bournemouth last season.

West Ham are in desperate need of a new striker. Michail Antonio’s recent injury highlighted how understocked the Hammers are in the forward department.

Sebastien Haller stepped in and once against thoroughly underwhelmed and perhaps the Ivorian international’s recent performances have forced Moyes’ hand in the transfer market.

The Hammers are at a severe disadvantage without the talismanic Antonio and there needs to be suitable back up in the case he gets another injury this season.

King has scored plenty of goals in the Premier League, 48 in 161 appearances to be exact and he would be a decent signing.

But £15 million is a lot of money to pay for a player whose contract expires in the summer, let’s hope he’s worth it.
