Motson rips into the West Ham owners for lack of progress
There was a mighty hullabaloo last week over David Gold and David Sullivan’s 10-year anniversary at West Ham United.
It was a decade ago that the two Davids took up the reins in east London, something which led to protests from the Irons supporters.
It’s safe to say that the Hammers haven’t made the progress expected under their rule, something which is certainly the view of former talkSPORT commentator John Motson.
“When they say they were promised the Champions League, well you can’t promise anybody the Champions League, can you?,” he said on talkSPORT. “It’s got to be earned.
“I think with West Ham now… they lack pace, they’ve got to get [Michail] Antonio back and hopefully [Felipe] Anderson or [Andriy] Yarmolenko, because what would be their three aren’t playing!”
Is Motson right, here?
He’s absolutely correct that you can’t promise Champions League football as if it’s an automatic reward for spending a bit of money.
It was ridiculous for the owners to come out and give these big proclamations when they took over, because you never know what’s going to happen.
Motson is also spot on when he says the team lacks pace at the moment, although it’s obviously slipped his notice that Yarmolenko isn’t someone David Moyes likes.
In other West Ham news, Moyes is expected to plump for a change in formation for Saturday’s FA Cup clash with West Bromwich Albion.
