Mohammed Kudus wanted West Ham United assurances over Lucas Paqueta amid Manchester City transfer collapse
Tim Steidten “assured” Mohammed Kudus that he and Lucas Paqueta could fit together at West Ham if the Brazilian didn’t leave, according to The Athletic.
The subscription outlet reported in their transfer window review on 2 September that the Ghanian star asked about the Hammers’ record signing before agreeing to move from Ajax, and was told he “would not receive less playing time” if Paqueta’s mooted move to Manchester City didn’t go through.
The Brazil international had a £70million offer from the Etihad rejected but looked set to leave until it emerged he was under investigation by the FA over alleged breaches of betting rules – which he denies.

Ultimately Paqueta’s exit collapsed and Steidten successfully brought Kudus in from the Eredivisie for £38.2m, on a five-year deal with an option for a sixth.
One two punch
Kudus may have replaced Paqueta in the final minutes of the 2-1 win at Luton Town on deadline day to make his debut but it sounds like the Irons plan to have them both on the pitch at the same time.
For the amount of money the pair cost that should be little surprise but a lot was spent last summer for little return so it isn’t guaranteed.
Kudus’ versatility should allow him to fit into most line ups that David Moyes picks this season, assuming he adapts to the Premier League as expected.

And with West Ham unable to secure a late striker signing before the window shut, despite an 11th-hour push for Hugo Ekitike, there is scope for the new man to play ahead of Paqueta if necessary.
Having the exciting pair in the side together is an exciting prospect for Irons fans who just a few weeks ago were facing down the prospect of the club failing to get incoming business done at all.
Instead, four sold arrivals have been secured and the Hammers finished the window top of the league after victory at Kenilworth Road, so for now at least things are certainly looking up.
In other West Ham news, the club were left “furious” on deadline day as they couldn’t sell a quartet of exit-linked players.
