Mikel Arteta provides Arsenal team news update before match v West Ham

Mikel Arteta said Arsenal will have to “wait and see” on Gabriel Magalhaes’ fitness as he provided an injury update before the Premier League clash with West Ham

The Hammers take on Arsenal on Saturday [30 November] as they look to build upon their 2-0 win against Newcastle United this week.

One thing that might make the daunting task of facing the Gunners slightly easier is the fact Gabriel remains a doubt after going off hurt in Arsenal’s thrashing of Sporting CP in the Champions League in midweek.

However, Arteta offered only a brief update at his pre-match press conference [quoted via Football London, 29 November], merely responding “Wait and see” when asked about Gabriel’s availability.

Another win for West Ham?

West Ham’s victory at the start of the week secured Lopetegui’s future at the London Stadium for now but there is still plenty to be done before he can convince that he is the one to take the club forwards.

The Hammers boss will no doubt be hoping that the defender isn’t available for their opponents, or at least not able to start the game.

The Gunners have come into form recently so it’s a dangerous time to be facing them but West Ham also showed their ability to put on a good display against Newcastle which they could do again with a game at home.

Therefore, if Gabriel wasn’t available for their opponents this weekend, this could well be the boost that his side needs to try and get in the positions necessary to take advantage and score goals.

Unfortunately for the Hammers though, the opposition manager’s coy comments mean they will have to prepare themselves for both eventualities while hoping the team selection goes their way.
