Mick McCarthy accepts he may anger Millwall fanbase with what he’s said about West Ham figure
Mick McCarthy may not be in the Millwall fans’ good books after showing love for West Ham.
McCarthy has spoken frustratingly towards West Ham in the past, but appears to have changed his tune after a poor start to the season at the London Stadium.
This has seen huge pressure build on Graham Potter at West Ham as his job now looks to be under threat at this early stage of the campaign.
With West Ham most recently losing 2-1 to Crystal Palace, there is little positivity surrounding Potter and his job security in East London.
Despite this, McCarthy has spoken out to share his backing for the Englishman, something which is unlikely to go down well at The Den.

Mick McCarthy sends best wishes to Graham Potter
Nuno Espirito Santo has been strongly linked to West Ham alongside Slaven Bilic as the Hammers assess potential managerial options.
With that being said, Potter remains in the job for the here and now, with a clash against Everton coming up next in the Premier League.
West Ham’s upcoming Premier League fixtures:
- Everton vs West Ham
- Arsenal vs West Ham
- West Ham vs Brentford
- Leeds United vs West Ham
- West Ham vs Newcastle United
It is unclear whether the sack is in the pipeline for the ex-Chelsea boss, but as it stands, things aren’t necessarily looking ideal.
This has seen Tony Pulis speak out via The Managers podcast on 23 September in the hope that Potter can work out a solution to turn the Hammers’ form around.
He said: “I’m sure Graham has got his way of managing. He’s been in the game a long time. They can find out exactly what is going on for them not to be winning games.”
In reaction to this, former Millwall manager McCarthy has shared his hope for the Englishman’s success, despite his links to the Lions.
McCarthy said: “I wish him the very best, despite the fact that I played for Millwall and managed Millwall. That might be upsetting a lot of people, but I hope not.”
West Ham have Graham Potter decision to make
There is no getting away from the mess that the E20 club find themselves in after such a poor start to the Premier League season.
With that in mind, a quick decision needs to be made on whether to change the manager or to back Potter for the rest of the year in East London.
It feels as if the latter would be tough given how poor his run has already been since coming in at the London Stadium back in January.
With what McCarthy is saying, there is hope that he may stick around, but if the Hammers don’t pick up a positive result against Everton, it could be the end of the road for the Englishman.
