Michail Antonio to fly back to London in new West Ham fitness update

West Ham striker Michail Antonio is due to return to the UK to continue his rehab work.

The forward has been ruled out for many months after suffering a fracture in his lower leg after being involved in a car crash in early December.

The Jamaica international was trapped in his vehicle before being released and taken to hospital but is now stepping up his recovery.

Now the 34-year-old is preparing to fly back to London after spending time away from England to continue his recovery.

West Ham striker Michail Antonio to return from UAE rehab

It is safe to say that the Hammers striker has been missed in the squad at the London Stadium, especially after Niclas Fullkrug suffered an injury.

This has left Graham Potter without a recognised striker in his starting 11 at times after showing little faith in Danny Ings since coming in.

As a result, the English head coach will be hoping to welcome the Jamaican back to his squad and the chances of that happening could be set to increase.

The Standard reported on 21 February that Antonio is due to depart the United Arab Emirates this weekend in order to return to the UK.

This will allow the ex-Sheffield Wednesday man to continue his rehab in London as the forward believes he could return to playing action before the end of the season.

It is said to be touch and go as to when the Irons’ number nine could feature but the hope that this is possible can only be seen as a positive.

West Ham need Michail Antonio return

It is fair to say that the former Nottingham Forest man has been sorely missed in East London since picking up such a terrible injury.

His influence on the squad and the starting 11 has always been there for all to see and is shown off by the fact he’s played well over 300 times in claret and blue.

Being able to add Antonio back into the side will provide some squad depth and also allow Jarrod Bowen to feature in a more recognised position.

This is a similar story for Lucas Paqueta who has also been utilised as a false nine at times which doesn’t necessarily suit him and hasn’t really worked.

As a result, it will be a boost to the whole Hammers squad to hear about the Jamaican’s upcoming return to the UK after a quick injury turnaround.
