Michail Antonio admits ‘big mistakes’ have been made at West Ham United this season

West Ham have made some “big mistakes” in recent weeks after a run of disappointing results in the Premier League, according to Michail Antonio.

Speaking on the Hammers’ website ahead of the game against Nottingham Forest on Sunday (12 November), the Jamaican international said there has been a “downturn” in the performances after the club have been a “bit of a slump”.

The 33-year-old added that the Irons are “not worried or threatened” as they know they have the quality in their side to turn things around.

“I wouldn’t say our form is cause for concern right now,” said Antonio. “The season has definitely had its ups and its downs and it’s definitely in a down right now, but we wouldn’t be West Ham if we didn’t do this. I’ve been here nine years now and we always manage to pull ourselves out of it, so we’ll go on a run and find our good form.

“After the way we started the season, it has been a downturn in performances and we’ve been in a bit of a slump, making some big mistakes and been punished for them and that’s prevented us from winning games.

“One thing we know, though, is how to get ourselves out of this and hopefully we can do that, starting this weekend. We’re not worried or threatened. We know the quality of the players we have.”

Experience

The West Ham players have plenty of experience in their ranks and they will be more confident that they can put together a good run over the next weeks.

There is no doubt that the past month or so has been extremely disappointing on the back of what was an excellent start to the season.

They would have previously been optimistic about competing for one of the European places, but that has changed after the performance levels have slipped.

It’s led to speculation around David Moyes’ future at the London Stadium, with technical director Tim Steidten believed to be putting together a list of potential new managers.

The international break is arriving at a time where everyone can just take a breath and work on things to try and get back on track in a couple of weeks’ time.
