Michael Owen raves about West Ham goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski v Manchester City
Michael Owen has showered praise on West Ham goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski after he saved a penalty against Manchester City on Sunday (15 May) in the Premier League.
The Hammers went 2-0 up at the break, with both goals coming from Jarrod Bowen. In the second half, City responded strongly and restored parity.
Pep Guardiola’s side had a great chance to take the lead when Craig Dawson fouled Gabriel Jesus in the box. Riyad Mahez stepped up to take the penalty, but Fabianski was equal to the task.

Owen said to Premier League Tv Productions: “You know what, this lad is a good penalty saver.
“You could see his right leg stuck on the line, I know VAR always look at it everytime there’s a penalty save.
“But Fabianski’s is a good penalty save. And again, what a big big moment this could be, it might not matter at the end of it, but it keeps it going for another few days.”
Huge save
It was a big moment in the context of the game and in the title race as well.
Mahrez is a fantastic penalty taker, having scored nine penalties in a row. But this time, Fabianski moved in the right direction and made a very good save.
West Ham played really well. They were composed, kept the game tight in the first half and hit them on the counter.
Even after City scored the equaliser, the Hammers got a brilliant opportunity to take the lead through Michail Antonio. However, he made the wrong decision, trying to chip over the keeper, instead of squaring it to Pablo Fornals.

With this result, the Hammers have now booked a place in next season’s Europa League once again.
This has been a terrific season for the Hammers where they also reached the semi-finals of the Europa League.
The result also gives Liverpool a slim hope of taking the title race to the final day.
In other West Ham news, Martin Samuel has responded to the latest West Ham London Stadium developments dubbing it the “deal of the century”.
