Michael Owen predicts result of West Ham clash v Lyon
Michael Owen is predicting a ‘famous’ West Ham win against Lyon in the second leg of their Europa League quarter-final clash on Thursday.
The Hammers were held to a 1-1 draw at the London Stadium after being reduced to ten men in the first half, but were arguably the more dangerous team throughout.
With the return game in France coming after a 2-0 defeat to Brentford at the weekend there have been some nerves, but Owen told BetVictor that he believes David Moyes’ side will be full of belief and can pull off a 1-0 win on the travels.

“All things considered, 1-1 was a very good result for West Ham,” he said.
“Cresswell’s red card could have lost them the tie, so to get to the second leg still well in this, will be a huge positive.
“Given they were able to draw with ten men, I think they’ll enter this with a lot of belief. I’m going for a famous 1-0 win to West Ham.”
Famous
The Hammers have had a tremendous season so far, but the whole campaign boils down to this game for many fans now.
After chasing top four all season they seem out of the race now following recent results, meaning it’s all or nothing in the Europa League if they want to earn Champions League football.

When the draw was done, it was seen as favourable for the Irons because of Lyon’s pretty poor domestic form but they showed they were more than capable of being dangerous too.
Being away in France will be tough, of course, especially considering Lyon haven’t lost a game in this competition this season, but West Ham have the quality and hunger to do it.
It all boils down to their discipline, their defensive qualities and their brilliance in front of goal but if they are able to secure a victory and progress into the semi-finals then it absolutely will be a famous win.
