Michael Owen drools over West Ham defender Craig Dawson

Michael Owen has showered praise on West Ham defender Craig Dawson in the 1-1 draw in the Premier League on Saturday at the London Stadium.

The Hammers took the lead almost against the run of play in the 32nd minute when Dawson scored from a header.

The Magpies restored parity before the break through Joe Willock.

Owen, while analyzing the game for Premier League Tv production, said (19 February): “We all know what Dawson is like in terms of attacking the ball. He is probably one of the best defenders in the league from set-pieces.

“He scores a lot of headers. He doesn’t play so often, but when he does he is always a threat from set-pieces.”

Poor result

Dawson has made 23 Premier League appearances this season for the Hammers.

Since the injury to Angelo Ogbonna, he has been the mainstay at the back, and has been simply brilliant, scoring two goals.

It was a clever run from the 31-year-old, but credit should go to Aaron Cresswell who provided a peach of a delivery from a free kick. It was his seven assists of the season.

Coming back to the game, it was a shocking performance from the Hammers.

It’s been a frustrating recurrent theme that’s going on for a while, and David Moyes is not rectifying it. The Hammers are starting the game sluggishly allowing the opposition to take control of the game.

Some of the players are completely out of form, and the overall standard has dropped significantly.

Declan Rice has struggled to drive the team forward, while Michail Antonio is going through a nightmare spell at the club.
