Micah Richards makes ‘Perfect’ Potter admission at West Ham live on MOTD

Micah Richards believes the West Ham United job could be a “perfect” match for Graham Potter.

The Englishman led the Hammers to his first win as their boss in their 3-2 victory over Fulham on Tuesday (14 January) with Carlos Soler being one of the standout players among the team.

West Ham are now 13th in the Premier League and while their victory against Marco Silva’s men is a step in the right direction, there’s still plenty more that could come from Potter’s men.

Speaking live on Match of the Day (15 January, 1:27:25), Richards shared his thoughts on the appointment of the former Chelsea boss.

“I feel like they just need a clear plan of what to do,” he said.

“Potter isn’t really got for playing the lines, he’s got technical players to do that, I think the Chelsea job came a little bit too soon for him but what he did at Brighton, bringing young players through, I think it could be the perfect job for him.

“It’s going to be a bigger challenge.”

West Ham struck gold with Graham Potter

It’s still early days in the Graham Potter era at West Ham but, at the moment, it feels like things are going fairly smoothly.

Especially when the fact that both Jarrod Bowen and Niclas Fullkrug are out due to injury is taken into account.

At the moment, it’s unclear whether the Englishman will be a success at the London Stadium but if he can pull off performances like the one he did against the Cottagers, it feels like the Hammers should be more than fine.

At the start of the 2024/25 campaign, West Ham were expected to be battling for the European places after the significant amount of money that they spent on reinforcing their ranks.

Evidently, that hasn’t been the case so far but if the former Brighton boss can pull off performances like he did when he was in charge of the Seagulls, his appointment could be one of the Hammers’ best signings of the season.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers are now in “active talks” for the transfer of a striker in January.
