McCoist drops Julen Lopetegui pressure verdict after Newcastle United v West Ham
Ally McCoist believes Julen Lopetegui has taken the pressure off after West Ham secured a 2-0 win over Newcastle United on Monday.
The Hammers were expected to travel up to St James’ Park on 25 November and get beaten by Eddie Howe’s side, but goals from Tomas Soucek and Aaron Wan-Bissaka meant three points for the away side.
Lopetegui has been under considerable pressure since his arrival in East London, with his side heading into the clash with just three wins from 11 matches, but McCoist thinks the pressure is off him for now.
Speaking live via talkSPORT on Tuesday (26 November, 7:08am), McCoist said: “The question now is, is the pressure off for Julen Lopetegui? Yes, it is, until the weekend.
“Then it all kicks off again because that’s the nature of the beast.”
Julen Lopetegui escaping West Ham United sacking for now?
One unexpected victory against the Magpies should not be enough to save the Spaniard. In fact, he has just proven what his squad have been capable of all this time, making fans all the more frustrated.
The Hammers’ only league wins this season had come against Crystal Palace, Ipswich Town and Manchester United, with Monday night’s win taking them just six points above the dropzone.
Coming up against title-hopefuls Arsenal on Saturday 30 November will certainly throw the cat amongst the pigeons and really prove exactly what his team can do.

There was a lot of excitement around the East London side, mainly due to the number of new transfers coming through the doors at the London Stadium, but it has not quite worked out as well as expected.
While Lopetegui will not be saved from being sacked. However, the 2-0 win and definitely a good performance will buy him more time from David Sullivan.
