Maxwel Cornet to return to England after long West Ham United layoff

Maxwel Cornet is set to return to England after the West Ham United winger underwent extensive treatment in France for a calf issue, according to Claret and Hugh.

According to Six Foot Two (14 February), the Ivorian has also been hit with an illness whilst out of the country to compound his injury woes.

However, a source has informed Claret and Hugh that the 26-year-old is now nearing his comeback and will return to England on Friday.

“Max will be returning from France after receiving intensive treatment and we hope he will be fit enough to go into full training. It’s a very rare injury so unfortunately there are no precise timings,” the source said (Claret and Hugh, 15 February).

Big boost

Cornet’s start to life at West Ham United has been anything but plain sailing. Injuries have hampered the former Burnley man and David Moyes will now be hoping for a consistent run of games from the Ivorian when he is deemed fit.

He has the potential to be a versatile asset for the Hammers. He can operate in a wing-back role and in a more central position alongside another forward. He has already featured, but when he does return it will feel like a new signing for the West Ham boss.

His presence will certainly be welcomed considering the Irons’ current plight. Moyes’ men are just above the bottom three and will be hoping to continue their good recent form when they head to Tottenham on Sunday afternoon.

They have a decent record in North London and will be looking to capitalise on Leeds and Everton facing off at Goodison Park on Saturday (18 February).
