Maxwel Cornet sends message to Harrison Ashby after West Ham United exit

Maxwel Cornet has sent a message to Harrison Ashby after he moved to Newcastle United in the January window from West Ham.

The 21-year-old right-back moved to St James’ Park after refusing to sign a new deal at the London Stadium.

He has described Newcastle as a “special place”, and has clearly enjoyed the warm welcome he has received from the home supporters.

Cornet dropped him a message, saying “congratulation bro”.

“The warmest of welcomes! Thanks to all the fans and everybody at the club for making me feel so welcome at such a special place, can’t wait to hear that atmosphere again week in week out, time to get grafting,” wrote Ashby.

“Congratulation bro,” replied Cornet.

Long-term plan

It is not nice to see young talents leaving the club, and it was frustrating to see Ashby leave as well.

He is a fantastic talent who progressed through the academy ranks at the club.

The youngster has played for the senior side as well and looked like a solid player.

Newcastle have chased him for a while and they feel he could do the job in the Premier League.

West Ham

David Moyes tried to persuade the youngster to stay put, and the club did present him with several offers. But he turned them down.

Clearly, he felt that his progress will be hampered. It will come as a big surprise if Ashby keeps on playing in the Premier League, whereas Moyes couldn’t find him a place in the side.

West Ham have loads of option in the right-back areas, and it was probably the best decision from Ashby.

The Hammers could be looking to bolster that area if either of Vladimir Coufal or Ben Johnson leaves next summer.
