Martin Allen rages at what Sky Sports did in Chelsea v West Ham – ‘Shocking’

Martin Allen was left fuming by Sky Sports’ coverage of the West Ham United clash against Chelsea on Monday.

The Hammers fell to a 2-1 defeat at Stamford Bridge on 3 February, with Jarrod Bowen’s strike being cancelled out by two second-half goals from the home side.

The result didn’t go as Graham Potter would have hoped, but it was the coverage of the game which frustrated former Irons midfielder Allen.

Taking to X (3 February), he said: “Do they know West Ham are playing? Shocking coverage. Very poor.”

Despite having former Hammers manager Gianfranco Zola on Monday Night Football, it was his playing days in blue that were at the top of the agenda.

This was the first sign that there was going to be little mention of the away side, who flipped the script with just minutes to go until half time.

There was plenty of praise heaped on Bowen, although there was as much discussion about what Enzo Maresca’s side had done wrong.

When the home side turned the result around through an Aaron Wan-Bissaka own goal, the hype around the West London outfit only intensified.

It was Cole Palmer who lapped up the majority of the praise for his involvement in the winner, despite this being a deflected cross off the unfortunate Irons defender.

As a result, Allen’s complaints are totally fair but at the same time, the focus on one of the “Big Six” sides is always going to be as it was at Stamford Bridge.

In other West Ham news, a transfer decision has been made on Luis Guilherme after multiple bids were lodged.
