Marseille believed Duje Caleta-Car was on his way to West Ham
Marseille believed until Sunday (January 30) that Duje Caleta-Car was on his way to joining West Ham, according to Ryan Taylor.
He claims that the two clubs have been in talks on transfer deadline day over a possible move, but it appears to be unlikely, as things stand.
There is still no agreement to sign the Croatia international and this means that Issa Diop will not be leaving in January.
Via his personal Twitter account, the Daily Express journalist shared, “Duje Ćaleta-Car – West Ham, obviously unlikely at this stage. Marseille were trying to close deal yesterday & believed player was joining #WHUFC.
“Irons were seemingly unwilling to negotiate permanent transfer. Talks resumed this morning but no agreement. Issa Diop staying put.”
Pity
West Ham have known for months that they needed to sign a centre-back in January.
Angelo Ogbonna’s injury coupled with Diop and Craig Dawson’s inconsistency meant that it was imperative someone came in.
However, the Hammers did as they usually do and left everything for the last minute.

It’s shameful that with hours to go before the window shuts they’re still in talks over something that’s been an issue for the last few days.
If Marseille aren’t budging then it makes sense to move on to alternate targets.
However, it seems that the club have planned for alternatives and they’re destined to labour on until the end of the season.
