Mark Noble details reasoning behind absence in West Ham win v Chelsea

West Ham United midfielder Mark Noble has confirmed it was a hamstring injury that kept him out of the 3-2 win against Chelsea on Wednesday evening.

The Hammers captain hasn’t played a massive role since the Premier League restart, featuring in the defeat against Tottenham.

It was the perfect evening for the Irons, who bounced back from VAR controversy to seal the victory against their London rivals thanks to a goal from Andriy Yarmalenko.

Noble, writing in his Evening Standard column, claimed that after discussions with David Moyes didn’t want to risk his injury even further.

“I missed out with a hamstring problem,” he wrote.

“It was sore after training the day before the Chelsea game. I spoke to the manager and we didn’t want to risk it.

“It’s more stressful watching, though. Sitting up in the stand, I nearly pulled the hamstring five times!”

Hamstring injuries are always the worst possible setbacks to suffer, as they can be triggered time and time again.

Moyes and Noble have both been around for long enough to know that the experienced skipper missing one game will mean that he can most likely play a part in the rest of the season.

Tomas Soucek stepped up perfectly in midfield alongside Declan Rice though, and Noble will find it tough to earn his spot back against Newcastle.

The Czech international scored, had two shots on goal, won eight aerial battles and completed three tackles according to WhoScored – he was everywhere.
