Mark Noble blown away by ‘wonderfully talented’ James Ward-Prowse, ‘always respected’ Edson Alvarez
Mark Noble has shared his praise for West Ham midfield pair James Ward-Prowse and Edson Alvarez.
Speaking live on talkSPORT, (5 October), the former Hammers captain praised the summer signings after their exceptional starts to life in Stratford.
Noble singled out the Englishman’s technical ability and leadership skills while admitting to having “always” respected the Mexican.

Noble said, as quoted by TRB Football: “Look, [Edson] Alvarez, I always respected him and liked him as a player. James [Ward-Prowse], I played against him many, many times and we all know his ability, that was sort of a gimme.
“We know what he brings, he’s a fantastic fella on and off the pitch. He was captain at Southampton, he’s got a wonderfully talented right foot as we all know.”
Honour
Earning such plaudits from the so-called ‘Mr West Ham’ would be a true honour for the midfield duo.
Ward-Prowse’s sensational start is much easier for fans to notice. With two goals and five assists in all competitions, he has proved an effective game-changing asset to the side and deserves his praise.
Alvarez has flown relatively under the radar to non-Hammers fans. Per FBRef, the Mexican has 84.2% pass accuracy, nine blocks and six interceptions, showing he helps retain possession when the Hammers have it and cuts off potential counterattacks.

Noble’s praise would be tough to dispute, with David Moyes’ midfield emerging as one of the finest and most effective in the Premier League this season. The most surprising aspect is how quickly these new recruits have bedded.
Neither Alvarez nor Mohammed Kudus had English football experience before their move, but they settled immediately and instantly upgraded the side.
Moyes faced a bit of pressure ahead of the new season, but he has silenced doubters very quickly and his new boys must take some of the credit.
In other West Ham news, a senior man has reacted badly to his manager’s decision and is now set to leave the club in the near future.
