Mark Lawrenson predicts winner in West Ham clash v Sheffield United

Mark Lawrenson has backed Sheffield United to earn their first Premier League win of the season against West Ham United on Sunday.

The BBC pundit has predicted that the Blades will sweep David Moyes’ men aside 2-0 at Bramall Lane and end their shocking spell.

West Ham come into this one on the back of their action-packed 1-0 win over Fulham and will be looking to continue that run.

Writing in his BBC predictions column, Lawrenson claimed that the Blades could turn a corner at Bramall Lane against the Irons.

“It’s surprising to see Sheffield United struggling so badly,” he wrote. “The worrying thing for them last time out was not that they lost to Chelsea, but that they had such a soft centre.

“That is unusual for Chris Wilder’s team so the alarm bells will be ringing. I am backing them to turn the corner this weekend, though.”

West Ham will know that three points will keep them in the discussion for a European spot – a great achievement given our tough start to the season.

Moyes will have a number of question marks ahead of the trip to Yorkshire.

Fabian Balbuena has been away with Paraguay, something that could see Issa Diop come back into the side as he is the fresher option.

There will also be attacking decisions to be made with Andriy Yarmolenko a confirmed absentee due to his positive COVID-19 test.

Does Michail Antonio come back on to the bench? Or will Said Benrahma finally get the chance to start his first Irons game.

These are all positive headaches to have, although it wasn’t enough to convince Lawrenson that the Hammers should be favourites.
