Mark Lawrenson predicts result of West Ham v Aston Villa
Mark Lawrenson has backed West Ham to beat Aston Villa when the two sides meet at the London Stadium on Monday.
The BBC pundit has predicted that David Moyes’ side will earn a 2-1 win due to the Iron’s superior attack.
A win would mean the Hammers have taken maximum points from their last three Premier League games and West Ham fans will start to look up the table rather than down.
Writing in his BBC predictions column, Lawrenson warned that Villa are dangerous away from home but backed the Hammers to grab the win.
He said, “Aston Villa are another team who have been getting much better results away than they have managed at home. Villa have improved in every department compared to last season, but West Ham have got better too, and they are on a good run right now.
“I like the look of the Hammers’ attack at the moment and, even if this one is close, they have got the quality to nick the points.”
West Ham could welcome back Michail Antonio against the Villains as Claret and Hugh report that the forward has resumed full training after recovering from his most recent injury.
The Hammers have managed without Antonio as Tomas Soucek and Sebastien Haller provided the goals against Fulham and Sheffield United but there is no doubting that the Irons are a better side when the 30-year-old is available.
Antonio has three goals in six Premier League outings so far this season and he will be looking to add to that tally if he plays against a Villa defence that has shipped six goals in their last three games.
However, Dean Smith’s side are dangerous on the road and that was proved as they utterly demolished Arsenal 3-0 at the Emirates on their last away trip.
Hopefully, Lawrenson’s prediction comes to fruition and the Hammers can claim another scalp in the Premier League this season.
