Mark Lawrenson predicts result of West Ham United Premier League clash v Manchester City

Mark Lawrenson has made his prediction for the Premier League clash between West Ham and Manchester City this weekend at the London Stadium.

The Hammers have won three of their opening four games this season, including wins over Chelsea and Brighton, while Man City are the only team with a 100% record as they look to win a fourth consecutive title.

But while speaking to Paddy Power (15 September), Lawrenson admitted that he is backing David Moyes’ side to get a draw against the current champions and expects them to make it “very difficult” for Pep Guardiola’s men.

“I’m going to have a draw in this game actually,” he said.

“If you said that to David Moyes right now he’d snap your hand off. They way they set up is very much focused on trying not to concede and making it very difficult so I’ll go for a draw.

“West Ham 1-1 Manchester City.”

Confidence

As it stands for West Ham right now there is absolutely no reason to fear any team and we should be full of confidence.

Defensively we have been strong and Greek defender Dinos Mavropanos could be fit enough to feature, making our options even better than they have been already.

James Ward-Prowse is fit and ready to go, and while Edson Alvarez had a lot of travelling to do from international duty he will want to play and will offer great defensive stability too. Add that to the skilful talent of Lucas Paqueta and Mohammed Kudus and we have the recipe to beat anyone.

We will have to be at our best, and the players can play with a freedom that there is little expectation on them to get a result against arguably the best team in the world.

But we can do it, and nobody should be surprised if we do considering the start to the season we’ve had.
