Mark Lawrenson predicts result of West Ham clash against Arsenal

West Ham will look to bounce back from weekend’s disappointing draw at Burnley when they visit the Emirates Stadium to face Arsenal tomorrow.

Mark Lawrenson is tipping the Gunners to secure a narrow 2-1 victory over the Hammers on Wednesday (15 December), citing their incredible home form as the reason while previewing the clash in his BBC column.

The Hammers have proven themselves against some of the best teams in the land, and while they have not blown the opposition out of the water of recent, they will fancy their chances against Mikel Arteta’s side.

Lawrenson said: “Arsenal don’t seem to have the same problems at Emirates Stadium as they do on the road – along with Manchester City, their home form is the joint best in the Premier League with six wins, a draw and a defeat so far.

“I have a feeling the Gunners will get another victory here because, as good as West Ham have been, they are just starting to look a little bit leggy.

“The Hammers were nowhere near their best in their draw at Burnley on Sunday and, although they are still fourth, they have only won one of their past five games.”

Loss on the cards?

West Ham will drop out of the top-four should they lose against Arsenal, and that is the last thing they want right now.

They have secured wins over Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United so far in the Premier League and League Cup in 2021-22, and that will give them hope when they play their London rivals.

The Hammers will have to get a result without their London Stadium fans, though, and that will be a huge test of their top-four credentials.

Recent struggles in front of goal have highlighted their need to get quality attacking reinforcements in January, and their lack of depth in that department could be exposed against Arsenal.

They need Michail Antonio to turn up having gone seven games without a goal.

He can be the difference between a win and a defeat, and given how he has always performed in the big games, he would relish the chance to come up against the Gunners defence.
