Manuel Lanzini could be ushered out the door after West Ham United links to Davide Frattesi

West Ham United are eying a move for Sassuolo midfielder Davide Frattesi – and that could well see Manuel Lanzini secure his London Stadium exit.

Tutto Mercato Web report (26 September) that the Irons are looking into a January move for the 23-year-old Italian international, who is also good a friend of Gianluca Scamacca.

Frattesi can operate in central midfield and in a more advanced position which could well see Lanzini deemed surplus to requirements after a summer of speculation surrounding his future.

The Daily Mail reported (1 September, page 74) there was a good chance of him leaving the London Stadium before the summer window slammed shut. A move away didn’t materialise and although the club do have an option on his contract, there’s been little indication as to whether the Hammers will extend his stay in East London.

With the Irons being linked to another midfielder, it could well be a sign of how David Moyes and the club view the Argentinian and his future with West Ham.

The 29-year-old is reaching a stage of his career where his performance levels will only likely decline and his game time with West Ham could become limited.

Frattesi is a signing that is possible, particularly after Scamacca’s move to the London Stadium there could well be a number of players from Serie A linked with the Irons. At 23 the Sassuolo midfielder would provide a long-term option for the club and would continue the Hammers’ impressive recent transfer business.

After a busy summer, it does feel like it was only the beginning of a larger squad overhaul which will see a significant change in playing staff over the next couple of transfer windows.
