Manchester United set for £100m transfer push with West Ham United star Declan Rice on list

West Ham midfielder Declan Rice has been placed on a list of potential £100million signings for Manchester United next summer, according to journalist Jacque Talbot.

The 23-year-old captain has long been linked with a move away from the London club, with a number of Premier League suitors including Chelsea and Manchester United vying for his talents.

Rice’s current contract expires in 2024 and the club have slapped a £150million price tag on their star man in an attempt to lure away competition.

On the fresh rumours that United are interested in his acquisition, Talbot posted a tweet on Friday 11 November saying: “Hear Man United are set to invest £100m into signing a fresh, world-class midfielder next summer. Possibly even two depending on player sales.

“On the list are Jude Bellingham, Bruno Guimaraes of Newcastle, West Ham’s Declan Rice – and Frankie De Jong.

On Manchester United’s current options, he added: “Casemiro, the club feel, is the short-term fix and they ultimately want to bring in a player who is under 25 and has room to develop to become the heartbeat of the side.”

Contract decisive

Although West Ham will be reluctant to sell their captain and star player, the time will always come when the lure of a top-six club becomes too great.

Like Jack Grealish at Aston Villa and more recently Graham Potter at Brighton, if you are forced to sell your most valuable asset as a club, you can still use the funds to re-invest wisely.

If United’s £100million+ sum is to be believed, West Ham could use such money to strengthen their squad and make it capable of competing consistently in the top half of the Premier League table.

More bodies are desperately needed in midfield and right back – with Vladimir Coufal rumoured to be potentially leaving the club – with such funds helping to solve these glaring issues.

With Rice entering the final year of his contract at the end of the season, West Ham might be forced to sell and avoid losing their captain on a free transfer in the 2024 window.
