Manchester United run closely by West Ham in race for one award – Chris Sutton
West Ham United are pushing Manchester United as being the most predictable team in the Premier League, according to Chris Sutton.
The former English striker believes the Red Devils are running away with that “award”, but the Hammers are near them.
Sutton also slammed the Irons’ underwhelming season after the 5-0 “walloping” against Liverpool on 29 December.
Speaking on the Daily Mail’s It’s All Kicking Off podcast [2 January], the 51-year-old said: “I don’t think [West Ham] are the most predictable team in the Premier League. I think Manchester United have got that award, but they maybe run them quite closely.
“It’s all been a bit underwhelming this season. And even Liverpool aside, which was a walloping, but that shows how far they are off it. I suppose their issue now is that there may be doubts over whether [Julen] Lopetegui could stay on or not.
“The fans made their feelings pretty clear against Liverpool as most of them had left before the final whistle. It’s a season where they’ve tried this change, but it’s not working. At this moment in time, they just need to keep their Premier League status.”
Manchester United comparison not good for West Ham United
The London Stadium faithful have had enough of Julen Lopetegui and have wanted to see him gone for a while now.
Since the Spanish manager’s arrival, the East London club have won just six games in the Premier League and are currently 13th in the table.
The 58-year-old head coach has failed to bring the best out of his squad despite being handed quality additions in the summer of 2024, and the Liverpool loss should have been the final nail in his coffin.
At the start of the campaign, West Ham were expected to challenge for a European spot, but they are currently in the bottom half of the English top flight.

The Hammers are still a point above Man United in the table, who have faced turmoil this season.
Ruben Amorim has replaced Erik ten Hag, but even the Portuguese manager has found life difficult at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils aren’t in the best of states, and being compared to them showcases how far behind the Irons are at the moment.
Instead of making progress after lifting the Europa Conference League title, the East London club find themselves in the pits of a potential relegation battle.
