Man City open to sale of Yangel Herrera amid West Ham interest

Manchester City are reportedly open to cashing in on Yangel Herrera this summer amid interest from West Ham to secure his services.

According to a report in The Sun, the Hammers are keen on signing the Venezuelan who is valued at £20million by the defending Premier League champions.

He’s been on the Hammers’ shortlist since June, per The Daily Mail, but it is now known that City are open to letting go of the 23-year-old and being the beneficiaries of the reported £20million windfall.

The player has also been targeted by Southampton, who have scouted him last season and also Leeds United who are keen on signing him this summer.

Having spent the last two seasons on loan at Granada, City feel that the iron is hot enough to strike and will be looking to capitalise on the interest in his services.

Quality player

Herrera is a classic box-to-box midfielder and gives the team legs from start to end. He’s got an engine on him and is an immaculate passer of the ball.

Per Patrick Vieira, he is also a good tackler – making him a well-rounded midfield player who would be a solid fit for us.

During his days as New York City FC manager, Vieira said, per Goal, “He’s a tactically intelligent midfielder who is strong in the tackle and reads the game well.

“Yangel also has good passing range and spatial awareness, which is crucial for a player in his position.”

While he’s unlikely to play ahead of Tomas Soucek, David Moyes could very well look to shift to a midfield three should we fail to sign Jesse Lingard this summer.

A number of times when we were outplayed last season was due to the opposition having numerical superiority in midfield.

Soucek and Declan Rice were often caught chasing shadows in the middle of the park, and getting a third body in there could help us be more competitive against the bigger sides.
