Mads Hermansen sends 16-word message amid West Ham exit speculation
Mads Hermansen was handed a start for West Ham in the FA Cup.
West Ham secured a 2-1 victory over QPR on Sunday, cementing their spot in the next round of this year’s FA Cup competition.
Taty Castellanos scored his first goal for the Hammers, while Crysencio Summerville showcased his quality with a goal and an assist.
Nuno Espirito Santo made very few changes to his starting 11, though one of them saw Hermansen return to the starting 11 for the first time since September.
Hermansen speaks out after fifth West Ham appearance
Hermansen was superb for Leicester last season, and his arrival at West Ham was met with high expectations.
However, the Dane struggled to cope with the standards at the London Stadium and was very swiftly dropped in favour of Alphonse Areola.
Hermansen has been linked with an exit in January, but Nuno handed him a start in the FA Cup, with the West Ham star taking to social media to express his gratitude for getting back onto the pitch.
Hermansen’s stats vs QPR in the FA Cup
- Two saves made
- One goal conceded
- -0.55 goals prevented
- 68% pass accuracy
- One high claim
Via his official X account, he said: “Amazing to be out there playing again.
“Thanks for your support. Ready for the next round.”
West Ham have a clear transfer priority for the summer
Hermansen did little wrong against QPR, but his Premier League performances have been nothing short of a living nightmare.
Via FotMob, his save percentage is a mere 45 per cent, with 1.7 goals conceded more than he would have been expected to based on the quality of shots faced.
His counterpart, Areola, possesses the worst distribution success rate in the Premier League, though has shown his qualities as a shot stopper.
However, neither can play the way the Irons want to, making it vital that they bring in a new goalkeeper either in January or in the summer, with the latter more likely.
Tottenham’s Antonin Kinsky has been linked with West Ham, though the Hammers need to target someone signficantly better and more experienced if they are to find a replacement.
