Lyon join West Ham in the race for Montpellier striker Gaetan Laborde

Lyon have joined West Ham United in the race for Montpellier striker Gaetan Laborde, according to France Bleu.

The Hammers have been keeping tabs on the 27-year-old Frenchman since January and are looking to finally get a move over the line this summer.

However, France Bleu claims that while Laborde is still very much in West Ham’s plans, he is being seriously tracked by Lyon, with the Ligue 1 outfit asking Montpellier earlier this week if the £17.1million (bonuses included) they have asked for the forward is negotiable.

West Ham

Risky

David Moyes’ side clearly needs to strengthen their striking department before the summer transfer window shuts despite the impressive form of Michail Antonio.

The Hammers’ Premier League record goalscorer remains injury-prone as ever, and the club cannot afford to play him in all of the four competitions they are featuring in this season.

Having bagged 18 league goals since the start of last season, Laborde is the perfect man for West Ham’s lack of depth in front of goal, and the club knows this.

However, it appears they are fully concentrating on signing a centre-back right now that they have forgotten all about strengthening at the other end of the pitch.

West Ham

Montpellier want £17.1million for their man and would not hesitate to sell once anyone meets their valuation from the of things.

Unfortunately, it is Lyon, not West Ham, who are making all the efforts to get a deal done right now, and that could end up being bad news for the London Stadium outfit.
