Lukasz Fabianski shares what interests him about West Ham future as new role hinted
Lukasz Fabianski has talked about a potential change in role at West Ham, with the goalkeeper open to continuing his time at the London Stadium.
The Polish shot-stopper made a shock return to the West Ham squad in September, after previously making an emotional goodbye at the end of last season.
The 40-year-old signed a new deal after his last contract expired and has taken up the role as third-choice goalkeeper this campaign, although a back injury has plagued his return.
However, upon the end of his career, Fabianski has left the door open to working for the Hammers as a coach.
Speaking to SportoweFakty, the Irons goalkeeper has said he would “definitely be very interested” in staying in E20 under a different capacity.

What role does Lukasz Fabianski want at West Ham in the future?
While many may expect Fabianski to opt to become the first-team goalkeeping coach, the 40-year-old has his eyes set on a different direction.
After a career spanning over twenty years, the West Ham shot-stopper would prefer a role that is less demanding than being part of the first team.
Fabianski reiterated his need for a break, saying: “I think I need a break from professional football. I’ve been playing at the highest level for over twenty years. I’d like to relax and not add to the burden.

“I’ve spoken with people at West Ham’s coaching staff, and I know it’s a very demanding and intense job.”
However, in stating that, the 57-capped Polish star revealed working as part of West Ham’s academy could be an option: “I’d definitely be very interested in working in the West Ham academy. I think a mentoring or youth coaching role would be a great option.”
The goalkeeper who has spent the last nine years in East London has yet to call time on his long-spanning career, so it remains to be seen when that could become a possibility.
Right now, Fabianski’s current deal expires at the end of the season, putting his immediate future at West Ham in the balance.
West Ham would be wise to keep Fabianski on
After making 216 appearances for the Irons and being part of one of West Ham’s greatest moments in modern history – the 2023 Conference League trophy – having a player of that ilk around the youth is an excellent option.
The future prospects will be able to learn from the experience he offers, and Fabianski knows West Ham inside and out based on his time at London Stadium.
- Lukasz Fabianski has kept 55 clean sheets throughout his time at West Ham so far
- He has conceded 290 goals in his 216 appearances for the East London club
Fabianski knows what it means to represent and aspire to the expectations that Hammers supporters bestow on their players, as he added to West Ham’s honours.
It would be an invaluable trait among his coaching that the E20 side would be remiss to pass upon.
Hopefully, there are many years of Fabianski around The Academy of Football to come.
