Lukasz Fabianski raves about West Ham forward Andriy Yarmolenko

Lukasz Fabianski has waxed lyrical about West Ham teammate Andriy Yarmolenko, saying he was “amazing” against Aston Villa.

Yarmolenko scored the opening goal for the Hammers as David Moyes’s side won 2-1 in the Premier League on Sunday (13 March) at the London Stadium.

The 32-year-old came in the second half in place of Michail Antonio who appeared to have picked up a muscle injury.

Yarmolenko is primarily a winger, but Moyes used him in the number 9 role, completely different from his natural position.

Fabianski said as quoted by Daily Star: “What he has shown is amazing. It is beautiful. The impact he had in the game, he played in a position that he doesn’t really play.

“The way we use Michail, he is a completely different player. The touch and finish was amazing and his involvement in the play was really good – his runs.

“You could see that the effort and the heart was there and the amazing quality he possesses.”

What next?

It was an emotional moment for the Ukrainian forward after he has gone through it in recent weeks.

We all know that Ukraine has been invaded by Russia, and that there’s a war situation out there.

People in Ukraine are dying and it is hard to keep a focus on football in such troubled times. Yarmolenko broke down in tears after he scored the goal.

From Pablo Fornals to Craig Dawson and almost every Hammers player has shown their full support to Yarmolenko.

The focus now shifts on to the next – the crucial Europa League second leg. The Hammers are trailing by a goal, and they need a big performance at home.

Will Moyes use Yarmolenko upfront? The goal must have given him huge confidence and he should start on Thursday.
