Lukasz Fabianski jokes about extending West Ham United stay until 2028 after Jarrod Bowen’s new contract
Łukasz Fabiański has joked about extending his contract with West Ham United until 2028 after Jarrod Bowen signed a new seven-year contract with the Irons.
It was announced on Sunday (8 October) that Bowen had signed a new deal at the London Stadium that would see him remain a West Ham player until 2030 after plenty of speculation around his future, signalling the Hammers’ intent to keep their best players.
Fabianski has only featured for the Hammers in the Europa League and Carabao Cup this season having lost his place to Alphonse Areola in the Premier League and although his contract expires at the end of the season, he has joked that he will be looking for similar terms to Bowen.
Speaking to Canal+ Sport on Monday (9 October), as quoted by Sport.PL, (10 October) he said: “When I heard this information, I went to Jarrod and asked if it was possible to arrange something for a longer time. This may be something new, related to how talks with new and current players will be conducted.
“When it comes to talking to me, I won’t go below five years.”
Number two
It is abundantly clear that Fabianski is entirely joking when talking about extending his stay in East London until 2028 as the Polish stopper is already 38 years old and would be 43 by the time that contract came to an end and it is unlikely he’ll be willing to sit on the bench for half a decade.
But the stopper has shown that he is still an incredibly valuable member of David Moyes’ side at the London Stadium, his performance against Freiburg in the Europa League was excellent, including a magnificent double save early in the second half.

Areola has been in inspired form in the Premier League this season and as he goes from strength to strength it becomes less and less likely that Fabianski will be able to win back his number one shirt, but should the Frenchman pick up an injury, they couldn’t have a much more able deputy.
There will be a lot of factors that come into play when both Fabianski and the Hammers decide whether to extend his stay come the end of the season, but should the Polish keeper be willing to remain with Moyes’ side as their cup number one, West Ham should look to extend the deal.
Maybe just not quite until 2028.
