Lukasz Fabianski backs West Ham United star James Ward-Prowse to become ‘very important player’

West Ham goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski has backed teammate James Ward-Prowse to become a “very important” player for the club.

Ward-Prowse has been in fine form since swapping Southampton for the London Stadium and West Ham in the summer.

He was on hand to provide the assist for Lucas Paqueta’s winner against Olympiacos in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday 9 November, and Fabianski spoke of the midfielder’s importance after the match.

As per the Evening Standard (10 November), the goalkeeper said, “We always knew the quality he had and we see it even more now he’s in our team.

“Hopefully, he can stay at this level for a long, long time and be a very important player for us — from set-pieces and playmaking on the pitch.”

Quality

As more time passes, the signing of Ward-Prowse is really beginning to look like a bit of shrewd business by David Moyes and West Ham.

His seven assists and two goals in 15 appearances for the club represent a strong return from his start to life with the East London outfit, and as Fabianski so rightly pointed out, his quality is there for everyone to see.

It is just a surprise that once again he has been snubbed by England manager Gareth Southgate, who has opted to pick the likes of Kalvin Phillips and Jordan Henderson, who are certainly not in better form than the West Ham man.

With four of his seven assists for the club coming in the UEFA Europa League, Ward-Prowse is clearly saving some of his key contributions for big games and will be hoping to lead the club to their second European title in as many seasons.
