Lucy Ward heaps praise on ‘versatile’ Maxwel Cornet after impressive performance for West Ham v Viborg

BT Sport pundit and commentator Lucy Ward has heaped praise on West Ham United winger Maxwel Cornet for his display against Viborg.

The 25-year-old played a key part for the Hammers in the first half of the UEFA Conference League qualification round fixture as he provided an assist to Gianluca Scamacca for the team’s only goal in the first 45 minutes.

Talking about it during the Conference League qualifying fixture on Thursday on BT Sport, Ward was full of praise for Cornet who according to be is an important signing for the Irons.

“Cornet is an important signing for West Ham because of his versatility,” she said.

“He just showed that he can be a part on any position in the front three.

“That’s not it but he can also be used in a further back position as a wingback. Having such players in the squad is important.”

Good business

West Ham entered the transfer window hoping to sign players to bolster more than one position on the pitch and thus far, they’ve made quite a few additions already.

One of the areas where manager David Moyes was keen to add quality was the wingers’ department as the club remained heavily linked with former Manchester United player Jesse Lingard who ended up joining Nottingham Forest instead.

That disappointment made Moyes and the Hammers turned their attention to Cornet and after seeing his performance in the first half against Viborg, the fans, as well as the top-tier management, would be extremely happy of having the 25-year-old at the club.

In an unprecedented season where the FIFA World Cup will take place in the middle of the league campaign, West Ham would need the services of Cornet as he can definitely occupy more than one position on to the field which would be extremely beneficial for the club.
