Liverpool player Kostas Tsimikas reacts to West Ham United transfer news

Liverpool player Kostas Tsimikas has reacted to the news that West Ham have signed Konstantinos Mavropanos from Stuttgart.

The 25-year-old has joined the East London outfit on a five-year deal, as per the official West Ham website (22 August).

The club’s new number 15 made his Premier League debut back in 2018 with West Ham’s London rivals Arsenal before his switch to Stuttgart.

Posting an update about their new signing, the official West Ham Instagram account wrote: “The first Greek international to adorn the famous Claret and Blue.”

Among those responding to the transfer on the social media site was his Greek teammate and Liverpool defender Tsimikas.

Defence bolstered

West Ham were keen on bringing in Manchester United and England defender Harry Maguire this summer in order to strengthen at the back.

The 30-year-old was seemingly very close to a move from Old Trafford to the London Stadium at one point, but it fell through in the dying stages, forcing the Hammers to move on and find someone else.

And given the rapidly approaching summer transfer window deadline, the East London club needed to move fast, which they have done by signing Greek ace Mavropanos.

The former Arsenal man will now look to compete for a regular first-team spot under manager David Moyes, although the boss may switch his starting central defenders around throughout the season, as was the case last time out.

Injuries and the club competing in various competitions forced Moyes into utilising the likes of Kurt Zouma, Nayef Aguerd and Angelo Ogbonna at different stages of the season.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers want to sign a Serie A striker as a replacement for Gianluca Scamacca, who left to join Atalanta earlier this summer.
