Liverpool injury news v West Ham United: Arne Slot shares Alisson update

West Ham are back in Premier League action on Saturday against runaway leaders Liverpool.

It promises to be a difficult test for Graham Potter’s men at Anfield, who are still looking to mathematically guarantee their safety in the Premier League.

While it would take something truly special for the Hammers to be relegated at this point, Potter will still be keen to make that official at the first possible opportunity.

However, now West Ham are staring down another difficult test in Liverpool, and Arne Slot has provided even more bad news for the Londoners.

Liverpool could welcome back key player

Alisson Becker missed out on Liverpool’s past two matches after picking up a head injury during the international break as he represented Brazil.

That has led to Caoimhin Kelleher stepping up as the number one option, but Slot has now teased that Alisson might be available again in time to play against the Hammers.

Speaking via BBC Sport after the loss at Fulham, Slot said: “There’s a week to go, so it gives us a bit of time. But you know, as Liverpool, we always follow the protocol in moments like this when it’s a concussion.

“If you haven’t ticked all the boxes, he can’t be in goal. He wants it a lot, but the protocol is the protocol.”

West Ham might catch Liverpool at the right time

Even though facing the Reds is never an easy game due to the quality of the team, this weekend could prove to be the perfect time to face the Premier League giants.

Liverpool are seemingly coasting to the Premier League title, but at the same time, they might have taken their foot off the accelerator, sitting 11 points ahead of Arsenal.

That was evident last weekend when Slot’s men were beaten 3-2 by Fulham, while they also suffered defeats against Paris Saint-Germain and Newcastle United prior to the recent international break.

There is a vulnerability to Liverpool as of late, with lots of the focus surrounding player contracts rather than the games themselves, and that’s something the Irons might get to exploit.

With Ipswich and Leicester destined to join the already-relegated Southampton back in the Championship, it is all about playing with freedom and picking up positive results at West Ham.

Next season is the real goal for success.
