Lee Bowyer smashes into West Ham United striker Michail Antonio live on talkSPORT after what he revealed about Gianluca Scamacca

TalkSPORT Lee Bowyer laid waste to West Ham United striker Michail Antonio live on air after what he revealed about Gianluca Scamacca’s struggles at the club in an interview.

The Jamaican international gave a brutally honest assessment of his Italian teammate revealing the reasons why he’s struggled at the London Stadium during his first season at the club.

Speaking on the Filthy Fellas podcast [1 June], Antonio questioned Scamacca’s suitability for manager David Moyes‘ style of play – seeming to suggest his lack of physicality and inability to “feed off scraps” has ultimately led to his struggles.

And speaking live on talkSPORT [7 June, 5m:10sec] Bowyer smashed into Antonio following his comments.

He said: “I think it’s a bit harsh and a bit personal there, I don’t see what he’s trying to achieve from saying them things.

“He’s a teammate and you stick together, whether you believe what he’s just said, you keep it to yourself, you don’t publically say things like that because I’m there’s a lot of things that people could say about Antonio as well.

“He has some faults but no one goes on air and says anything about him, so it’s a bit wrong, especially in the build-up to a final, I don’t see what he’s trying to achieve from that. It’s not right.”

Certainly not right

Bowyer is absolutely right. Antonio should have kept that information in-house and not blurted it out to the public. If he had just praised Scamacca’s talents and potential and just left it at that, it will been totally fine.

The Italian has indeed struggled to acclimatise himself to the Premier League in his first season at West Ham United, and that’s something Antonio should have had compassion with, given he went through the same fate during his early years at the club.

Going on air and giving such a statement about a fellow teammate simply does not set the right standard for any of his teammates, the club, or any young viewers listening and most of all, it is disrespectful to Scamacca.

The former Sassuolo striker is indeed a talented footballer and desperately needs time to bed into the West Ham United team, he should be afforded the same time Antonio was before he became a London Stadium fan-favourite.

No teammate of his back then, came out and gave a brutal assessment on his early struggles at the club, did they?
