Kyle Macaulay leaves West Ham too as new manager terms already agreed

Kyle Macaulay has joined Graham Potter in his exit from West Ham.

On Saturday morning, the bombshell news emerged that Potter had been sacked at West Ham with immediate effect, leaving several Irons stars shocked by the timing of the decision.

West Ham are due to face Everton on Monday night, just over 48 hours on from the sacking of Potter, who certainly had it coming.

However, he isn’t the only figure set to depart from the London Stadium, with Macaulay among others also heading for the exit.

West Ham have already identified their next manager

Macaulay, who has been the Head of Recruitment at the London Stadium, will also be departing West Ham, alongside Assistant Coach Bruno Saltor, First Team Coaches Billy Reid and Narcis Pelach, Lead Goalkeeper Coach Casper Ankergren, and Goalkeeper Coach Linus Kandolin.

Macaulay had spent time with Potter in Sweden before the Englishman set his sights on a new adventure with Swansea back in 2018.

It seems as though the Hammers had this scenario planned out for a while, with Alex Crook now reporting via X that West Ham have agreed terms with Nuno Espirito Santo to become their next manager.

Santo was sacked not long ago at Nottingham Forest, having fallen out with owner Evangelos Marinakis.

As to how West Ham will replace Macaulay remains to be seen, but given their recruitment struggles over the last few windows, it needs to be done correctly.

West Ham need recruitment overhaul

Potter is the main man to blame for West Ham’s regression over the last few months, but he certainly doesn’t hold all of it.

The Irons have failed to recruit well over the last few windows, and that also needs to be held accountable for what has been a dismal start to the campaign.

Santo will be an excellent hire for the Hammers, but he needs to be backed with top-quality signings, something which Potter never really was.

It remains to be seen if Santo will take charge of West Ham’s trip to face Everton on Monday night, though it certainly seems as though the appointment is getting close.
