Konstantinos Mavropanos medical update emerges as West Ham United agree transfer fee and he jets in – Dharmesh Sheth
Konstantinos Mavropanos will undergo his West Ham medical on Sunday (20 August) after a fee was agreed for the Stuttgart defender, according to Dharmesh Sheth.
The Sky Sports journalist reported via Twitter Saturday that the Greek international was set to fly into the UK over the weekend for a medical, before he provided an update to say the 25-year-old was London-bound later that night for his medical to get under way the next day.
Former Arsenal man Mavropanos has become the prime Irons centre-back target after Harry Maguire’s move broke down despite a £30million fee being agreed with Manchester United.
Mavropanos’ move will therefore come too late for the London derby against Chelsea at the London Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Inbound
Work needs to be done fast with just under two weeks of the transfer window left and it looks like West Ham have taken heed of that to get a Mavropanos deal done in a much quicker timeframe than Maguire’s doomed pursuit had already wasted.
Whether the 19-cap international is set to slot in as a starter remains to be seen, with big-money signings from each of the past two summers already in place in the form of Kurt Zouma and Nayef Aguerd.
But with both the Frenchman and the Moroccan, as well as Italian Angelo Ogbonna, having been ruled out for significant stretches in the past couple of seasons due to injury David Moyes wanted more cover to go along with Thilo Kehrer.

It looks like it will now just be a matter of a day or two before he gets that as Mavropanos comes in, although what has already proven to be an eventful end to the transfer window has shown that nothing can be entirely certain until contracts are signed.
A left-back, a forward and potentially another winger might still be on the cards before deadline day, with the pursuit of Mohammed Kudus from Ajax in full flow regardless of movement elsewhere.
It looks like Elye Wahi won’t be arriving now though, with the investigation into Lucas Paqueta causing his exit to Manchester City to collapse and the knock-on effect ending the push for the French striker [Jacob Steinberg, 19 August].
In other West Ham news, the Hammers put a huge bid on the table in an attempt to hijack a high-profile attacking transfer.
