Konstantinos Mavropanos contract update emerges with £19m West Ham United transfer set to be announced – Sky Sports

Konstantinos Mavropanos is set to sign a five-year deal as a new West Ham player after agreement was reached on all aspects, according to Sky Sports.

The broadcaster reported in an update on their website Tuesday morning (22 August) the length of the defender’s expected terms at the London Stadium, with a formal announcement expected “soon”, thought to be in the next 24 hours.

The VfB Stuttgart man is due to become the third signing at West Ham this summer and was at the 3-1 win over Chelsea on Sunday [Evening Standard, 21 August].

The deal was briefly thrown into doubt on Monday after a report from Foot Mercato’s Santi Aouna which suggested it could collapse due to a failed medical, but that has since been ruled out.

Edson Alvarez and James Ward-Prowse are the two new arrivals so far, with both midfielders featuring in the derby victory.

Imminent

The 25-year-old appears to be returning to London for the long-term having spent the past three and a half seasons in the Bundesliga, albeit only leaving Arsenal permanently last summer.

He should provide a valuable new experienced option in a group that has had plenty of injury problems in recent seasons, and guard against any more late departures from this squad, with Nayef Aguerd lined up for a surprise return by Rennes.

Joining the Moroccan, Kurt Zouma, Angelo Ogbonna and Thilo Kehrer, the centre-back grouping for David Moyes looks pretty solid, and after a drawn-out pursuit of Harry Maguire should allow the club to focus on attacking recruits in the final days of the window.

It doesn’t look like it is going to be possible for Lucas Paqueta to be prized out of the club before the deadline now, but Gianluca Scamacca’s sale has already left the strikers looking light and Michail Antonio is thought to want to move on as well.

If Pablo Fornals leaves too as he enters the final year of his contract amid transfer interest it would make it even more of a priority to bring in more creativity and firepower going forward.

Elye Wahi looked to be on the cards but hasn’t been possible to tie up, and Mohammed Kudus is proving easier said than done, although the Ajax star would be a very encouraging signing before the deadline if Tim Steidten can get it over the line.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers are chasing a striker signing and a transfer rival has just dropped out of the race.
