Konstantinos Mavropanos completes West Ham United media duties as transfer update emerges amid failed medical report
Konstantinos Mavropanos has “completed his media duties” and his move to West Ham is “still on”, according to Chris Wheatley.
The National World Publishing journalist reported via Twitter on Monday afternoon (21 August) that the Greek international still has “final details” of his Hammers contract being worked on before his deal can be completed.
The former Arsenal man was at the London Stadium to see West Ham win 3-1 against Chelsea on Sunday and was expected to finalise a move imminently [Evening Standard, 21 August], until an update from Foot Mercato’s Santi Aouna suggested it could be set to collapse due to a failed medical.
Mavropanos is set to become the Irons’ third signing of the transfer window after James Ward-Prowse and Edson Alvarez, and was turned to after the pursuit of Harry Maguire from Manchester United proved unsuccessful.
Relief
True to form with West Ham this move can’t be completely smooth all the way through but it looks like it is still in line to get done.
Were it not for the fact that the Irons are trying to hurry it through ahead of the transfer deadline it likely wouldn’t be a major issue, but the time spent attempting to convince Maguire to head to the London Stadium set the pursuit of a new defender back.
Were Mavropanos’ deal to fall through at this stage it would leave the club scrambling to get a third-choice move done in time, although there have reportedly been talks initiated.

The switch to the Stuttgart man, 25, has been hurried along relatively quickly in the wake of disappointment over the former Old Trafford captain, and developments during the weekend all seemed to be moving along as hoped.
So late complications will undoubtedly put supporters on edge, especially as it has also emerged that Nayef Aguerd is being lined up for a surprise return to Rennes which he is “open” to.
But as it stands the new man it appears Mavropanos should still become a West Ham player as the Hammers look to tie up various late bits of business in time before the deadline.
In other West Ham news, a major exit from the London Stadium is “not off” according to Dharmesh Sheth as Sky Sports report a deal is almost agreed.
