Kieron Dyer ’embarrassed’ by West Ham United spell in new fan message
Kieron Dyer has admitted he feels embarrassed whenever he is asked about his spell at West Ham due to the injury issues he suffered in over three years in East London.
The former Hammers man admitted that he is embarrassed both for himself and for the fans, as he was one of the highest-paid players at the club and did not justify that on the pitch.
Dyer sent a touching message to the fans who he claimed were always supportive and respectful of him, but said he wishes he could have offered more during his time at the club.

Dyer was speaking to talkSPORT [7 December] where he confessed: “I still get embarrassed being called a West Ham player.
“It pains me because I went there at the peak of my career. I was one of the top-paid players and I could just never stay fit, I feel embarrassed for the fans and for myself. At the time, to be on the wages that I was on, it pains me because they should have had the best of me.
“They had probably seen the worst of me, I like the fans as well, they were always respectful to me, I just couldn’t get on the pitch for them.”
An honest assessment
Fair play to Dyer for being honest about his time in East London. No goals and three assists from just 35 appearances over three and a half years was disappointing for one of the self-confessed highest-paid players at the club at the time.
Hopes were high over his arrival in East London, at 28 years old he was expected to be the main man in his prime performing every week and that didn’t happen, but his new admissions and message to the fans will be taken as it was intended with respect and admiration.

Appearing live on talkSPORT, Dyer revealed he has undergone a liver transplant after being diagnosed with primary sclerosing cholangitis, a long-term liver disease that is incurable, which he believes may have been a source of his injury issues.
He will be wished all the best by West Ham fans, and the way he speaks about the club and the fans, as well as his time there, means there will be nothing but respect and love between him, West Ham, and the Hammers fans.
