Kieran Maguire bemused by new London Stadium reveal after West Ham loss vs Nottingham Forest

West Ham United’s problems were on full display at the London Stadium as they were beaten by Nottingham Forest on Tuesday evening.

Taty Castellanos made his debut for West Ham but couldn’t help the East London side to victory, with Forest running out 2-1 winners.

Murillo’s early own goal opened the scoring for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, who thought they had gone 2-0 up when Crysencio Summerville smashed home, only for the strike to be ruled out by VAR.

Instead, Forest turned the game on its head, with a Nicolas Dominguez header and a late Morgan Gibbs-White penalty subjecting the Hammers to their fifth defeat in six matches.

West Ham make ridiculous claim in Nottingham Forest defeat

West Ham’s official figures stated that 62,429 fans were at the London Stadium for the defeat to Nottingham Forest.

However, it was later revealed that the actual attendance was in the region of 34,000.

The empty seats were visible for all to see on Tuesday evening and were a damning indication of the current state the Hammers find themselves in.

Football finance expert Kieran Maguire was left “bemused” by West Ham’s insistence on quoting incorrect attendance figures.

Maguire said: “How clubs quote these numbers with a straight face always bemuses me. #Pretendance.”

This is how West Ham can solve attendance issues

The reason for the current low attendances at the London Stadium is clear for all to see, given West Ham’s recent run of form under Nuno.

Since the Portuguese manager replaced Graham Potter back in September, the Hammers have only won two of their 16 Premier League games.

The East London side are now without a win in 10 matches and sit 18th in the table, seven points adrift of safety.

Until Nuno is sacked, the attendances at the London Stadium are only going to continue decreasing, with the fanbase lacking motivation and desire to watch their team lose week after week.

If the West Ham hierarchy want any chance of retaining their Premier League status, as well as getting the supporters back onside, there must be an immediate change in the dugout.
