‘Key time’ for West Ham ace Tomas Soucek contract talks – Dean Jones

Transfer insider Dean Jones has outlined a “key time” for West Ham in their attempt to tie midfielder Tomas Soucek to a new London Stadium contract.

The Czech Republic’s international contract expires in 2024 and talks have been put on hold until the summer after several unsuccessful negotiations, as per 90min.

Soucek is said to be looking for a weekly wage within the region of £80,000 per week having been told the club would reconsider his first deal based on his performances when he joined in 2020.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “It will be a massive gamble to not agree [to] terms with Soucek.

“Suddenly, they could see one of the big players come in and offer the money they want for Declan Rice, so it’s a really key time for West Ham over these talks.”

Pay him.

West Ham simply can’t afford to not sign Soucek to a new deal. He has been one of the standout players since joining West Ham, potentially the best barring his midfield partner Declan Rice.

With the England international Hammers’ future uncertain David Moyes simply can not afford to lose another one of his key players, especially with the both of them playing in the same position.

The 27-year-old has more than earned a new and improved deal so the Irons chiefs need to stop being so tight and pay their players what they are worth before somebody else does.

It would be a huge shame if this current crop of players doesn’t achieve something notable with the club.

They are currently on the brink of winning the Europa League with none of the teams looking dangerous enough to cause West Ham too much damage.

Even if they do miss out on winning the competition, maintaining these high standards by keeping hold of their star performers and strengthening the squad in the summer is imperative.
