Julen Lopetegui under pressure at West Ham United already in new David Moyes verdict

Rachel Corsie believes Julen Lopetegui could be under pressure at West Ham United after the 3-0 loss to Chelsea on Saturday [21 September].

The Hammers found themselves trailing by a goal after three minutes courtesy of Nicholas Jackson, who doubled the advantage 15 minutes later.

Cole Palmer completed the rout in the second half as Lopetegui lost his third consecutive match at the London Stadium in his opening five Premier League fixtures.

Corsie shared her verdict on the Spaniard on BBC Radio 5 Live [21 September] and, believes his position will now be under pressure in East London after another underwhelming showing.

She said: “Julen Lopetegui potentially could be one of the first managers under pressure. I think a bit of that is derived by the expectation of their fans.

“David Moyes did a very good job, won a European trophy and the fans were still frustrated, I think that drives a lot of it.”

West Ham United could regret appointing Julen Lopetegui

Only five matches into the Premier League season and already questions are being raised on whether Lopetegui is the right man to lead the new era at West Ham.

All the conditions for the Spaniard to enjoy a smooth transition to life in East London have been set in place by Tim Steidten with an influx of quality additions throughout the summer.

While there were certain to be teething problems with a new-look squad and new philosophy to become accustomed to, the time that would usually be afforded to a new manager is dwindling for Lopetegui.

The West Ham board will have serious questions to answer if the appointment of Lopetegui proves to be a resounding failure, the supporters have made their thoughts known on where they expect the side to be in the upcoming years and anything other than regular European football is unacceptable.

Lopetegui appeared devoid of ideas on the touchline and while he was animated throughout the 90 minutes, he might as well have stayed in his seat in the dugout having made no impact on the result.

All hope that West Ham could mount a serious challenge to Chelsea in the London Derby have evaporated after only 18 minutes of football, if the Hammers cannot beat last season’s tenth-placed side, what chances have they got of finishing inside the top 7 this season?

In other West Ham news, the Hammers have been told the terms to sign Sindre Walle Egeli.
