Julen Lopetegui mocked by Simon Jordan as West Ham United agree deal in principle

Simon Jordan has mocked West Ham-bound Julen Lopetegui for his time in the Premier League managing Wolves.

As per The Guardian (6 May), Lopetegui has agreed a deal in principle to take over at the London Stadium with David Moyes set to depart at the end of the season.

And Jordan, writing in the Daily Mail (page 69, 9 May), has sarcastically suggested that the 57-year-old isn’t necessarily the right man to replace Moyes.

The ex-Crystal Palace owner wrote, “Whether or not (Julen) Lopetegui is an upgrade, only time will tell, but we saw what a wonderful job he did at Wolves because Gary O’Neil went in and did a better one.”

West Ham United must be careful what they wish for at the London Stadium

It has been clear for some time now that supporters at the London Stadium were desperate for a change of manager.

They are now set to get exactly what they wish, with Moyes’ departure having been confirmed by the club.

And while Lopetegui’s imminent arrival is yet to be made official, all signs are pointing toward the Spaniard taking over in East London.

Excitement for a new era at the Premier League club is understandable, but supporters should be careful what they wish for.

While Moyes has struggled in recent months with the club having clearly lost their way, the grass isn’t always greener on the other side.

West Ham United manager David Moyes
David Moyes will be remembered fondly by West Ham supporters.

Lopetegui hasn’t been a hit wherever he has gone, with Jordan kindly reminding everyone of his struggles previously in England’s top flight with Wolves.

Moyes is the most successful manager in the modern era at West Ham, and Lopetegui has some big shoes to fill, regardless of how the Scot’s time at the club has ended.
