Julen Lopetegui delivers Emerson Palmieri injury update ahead of West Ham United vs Chelsea
Julen Lopetegui has revealed that Emerson Palmeri hasn’t suffered a bad injury and will be assessed before West Ham face Chelsea on Saturday (21 September).
The Hammers face the Blues at the London Stadium and were fearing they’d have to do so without the Italian international after he was taken off in last weekend’s 1-1 draw at Fulham.
Speaking in his press conference on Thursday 19 September, the Irons manager has confirmed that the 30-year-old will be evaluated before the Chelsea clash at the London Stadium.
He said: “Fortunately about Emerson, it was not an important one. A big knock but we have to review and evaluate every day.
“We are 48 hours from the match so we have time and tomorrow we’ll evaluate again.”
Julen Lopetegui offers Emerson Palmeri update ahead of West Ham v Chelsea
The Hammers have had an up-and-down start to life under the Spaniard in the Premier League and will be hoping to get back to winning ways.
The draw against Fulham was a frustrating result on paper but given the flow of the game, the home side probably deserved more from that clash.
It was disappointing to see Emerson taken off with over 30 minutes to go with an injury especially with the Chelsea clash on the horizon.
Fans will be hopeful that the Italian will be fit in time to face Enzo Maresca’s men given the attacking talents that they have.
The likes of Noni Madueke, Cole Palmer and Jadon Sancho will pose problems down the flanks so the Irons need to be at full strength.

It could be a difficult task for Aaron Cresswell to come in and straight away play against some wide players in positive form.
Lopetegui will assess Emerson ahead of the clash so the Englishman doesn’t have to make that jump into the first team but the situation appears to be touch and go.
