Journalist: West Ham make contact over midfielder loan deal
West Ham United completed the signing of central midfielder Tomas Soucek on Wednesday, but it seems they are still after more in the middle of the park.
The club need more reinforcements, to be fair, because there remains a distinct lack of depth behind starters Mark Noble and Declan Rice, even with Soucek now in town.
Carlos Sanchez is Carlos Sanchez, while Jack Wilshere remains the most frustrating of enigmas.
It’s no surprise, then, that Italian journalist Tancredi Palmeri revealed on his personal Twitter account on Thursday that the Hammers are after Cagliari destroyer Nahitan Nandez.
He claims that the Irons have contacted the Serie A side, who only signed Nandez from Boca Juniors last summer.
The 31-cap Uruguay international would likely arrive on an initial loan deal, with an option for David Moyes’ side to sign him permanently in the summer for £33million.
Is Nandez a worthwhile signing for West Ham?
He certainly looks like a very solid player. He’s played 23 times for Cagliari this season, scoring once and bagging four assists despite primarily being a defensive-minded midfielder.
At 24-years-old he’s young enough to get even better as well, so could potentially be a long-term replacement for Noble.
Loan-to-buys seem to be the way of things for the east London outfit at the moment, so why not add Nandez to Soucek, eh? The eventual fee is future Gold and Sullivan’s problem…
In other West Ham news, Moyes is expected to make around three changes for Saturday’s clash with Brighton & Hove Albion.
