Journalist: West Ham have ‘late interest’ in defender from London rivals

West Ham United have needed a right back for some time now, but the injury suffered by Ryan Fredericks earlier this month made the issue a big one.

A few weeks later, though, and the club haven’t addressed the problem. That’s despite the fact that the 35-year-old Pablo Zabaleta – currently deputising for Fredericks – is out of contract at the end of the season anyway.

So this is both a short and a long-term problem for manager David Moyes. Yet, the board have failed to act.

However, it appears that they are sniffing around players at the position, if not actively bringing anyone in.

West Ham

Bleacher Report journalist Dean Jones claimed on his personal Twitter account on Tuesday that the Hammers have registered late interest in Tottenham Hotspur right back Kyle Walker-Peters.

However, he concedes that the east London outfit are set to miss out on the 22-year-old, who is set to join their Premier League rivals Southampton on loan.

Why didn’t West Ham come in for Walker-Peters earlier?

The answer to that question is a complete mystery. Surely it would’ve seemed like a logical move for the team after Fredericks went down injured.

Instead, they’ve waited until the last minute to make their interest known. As a result, he is seemingly headed straight to the south coast, rather than moving across London.

This just stinks of typical David Sullivan bungling. The Hammers should have been straight in for Walker-Peters after Fredericks’ injury, if not before.

In other West Ham news, Moyes is expected to make four changes for Wednesday’s clash with Liverpool.
